I am a postdoc researcher in the Information Systems Group at Saarland University, working with Jens Dittrich. My current research mainly focuses on improving the performance of large-scale data-intensive applications. During my Ph.D. at ATLAS-GDD, INRIA (University of Nantes) -- where I had the pleasure of working with Patrick Valduriez and Philipe Lamarre --, I worked on distributed query processing in large-scale systems with autonomous participants.

In October 2012, I will join as a research scientist the Social Computing Group at QCRI, Qatar Foundation.

Research Interests
  • Distributed Data Management
  • Large-scale data analysis (MapReduce)
  • Cloud Computing

Projects

Ongoing :

  • Hadoop++: The overall goal of Hadoop++ project is to improve Hadoop's performance for analytical queries. Results show an improvement of Hadoop++ over Hadoop by up to a factor of 18. We are currently investigating the impact of a number of other optimizations techniques, such as the data layouts organization.
